Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police Officers are probing the crash after a cyclist was hit by a driver who sped away in the westbound lanes of the Havre de Grace bridge over the weekend.

The strike was reported shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4.

According to officials, officers found the bicyclist - whose name has not been released, pending the investigation - in the roadway, and he was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say that they believe the bicyclist was in the right lane when he was struck by an older model, dark-colored Ford pickup truck. They said that the involved truck may be missing its passenger-side rearview mirror as a result of the crash.

The driver of the striking vehicle did not remain at the scene, and investigators are actively working to locate this vehicle, they said.

Anyone with information regarding the crash or events leading up to it has been asked to contact MDTA Police investigators by calling (410) 537-1147.

"The MDTA Police encourages anyone who plans to cycle across the Hatem Bridge to read the information here before crossing and reminds drivers to Share the Bridge with bicyclists," officials noted.
